Step 1: Start With the Research Design

Tell the reader clearly whether the study is qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, experimental, comparative, case-based, or another type. This single sentence gives the entire section a frame and helps the reader understand everything that follows.

Step 2: Explain Data Collection Clearly

Readers should know precisely:

  • What data was collected
  • Where it came from
  • When collection happened
